FAKUMA 2024: TRIA introduces new Series dedicated to injection moulding, JN Series 15

TRIA, during the 29th edition of Fakuma presents the new Series dedicated to the world of injection, the JN 15 Series.
Two models are available: JN 2115 and JN 4215, which differ from the past mainly in: the size of the chamber and the conveyor inlet, and the shape of the latter, which is wider to ensure the recovery of even bulky sprues. The past teaches improvement, and that is what was done by TRIA's Technical Department, which in just a few months came up with a new design based on the feedback received from our customers and the various tests carried out in the company, bringing to light this new granulator.

Wide range of new features were introduced.

THE CONVEYOR AND HOPPER

The first change that immediately catches the eye is at the top of the granulator. The hopper and conveyor have been redesigned compared to the JM Series, with a larger opening and more attention paid to the fly-back of ground material, which is almost reduced to zero.
In the standard conveyor version of the new JN 15, the opening in fact passes:

  •   For the JN 2115 from 265 x 310 mm to 265 x 365 mm
  •   For the JN 4215 from 475 x 310 mm to 475 x 365 mm

The hopper geometry remains customizable according to customer requirements. In fact, TRIA has always been fully willing to listen to and accommodate customers' special needs, but even so, this granulator was designed from the beginning to meet a wide range of needs:

  •  1600 mm high robot loading applications
  •  Minimum load applications, safely
  •  Low height applications to be coupled with additional safety micro

THE GRINDING CHAMBER

It's the beating heart of every TRIA granulator, the place where production waste is transformed into ground material suitable for reuse. In an update that disrupts the old version, a complete overhaul of the grinding chamber could not be missing either.
With an enlarged opening size: for the JN 2115 model, it is increased from 210 x 140 mm to 220 x 170 mm, while for the larger JN 4215 model, it is increased from 420 x 140 mm to 430 x 170 mm, the grinding of bulkier sprues than in the past is guaranteed. In both models, anti-wear treatment is standard, to preserve the granulator even more over time as well as to provide customers with more flexibility in grinding different materials.

Also new is the geometry of the rotor, still machined from solid as its predecessor, but with more openings and a star-shaped conformation. This conformation is designed to increase the grip of the material coming from the hopper, but above all to reduce the formation of slats and dust in the ground material. In fact, in the case of slat formation, the slats remain in the chamber until they reach a suitable size to be discharged through the grate holes.
All this results in more homogeneous ground material with no imperfections, dust and noise reduced to a minimum.

As in all our machines we aim to reduce consumption to a minimum both with the granulator empty and during grinding. Considering the powers installed on this type of granulators, we obtained truly satisfactory results. The test was carried out with the JN 4215 model, which mounts a 1.5 kW motor. PP sprues of 1.2 g each were ground and the results are as follows:

  • At no load, about 16.5 percent of the installed power is used, for a consumption of 250 W/h
  • During grinding, 20.8% of the installed power is used, resulting in an hourly output of 30 kg/h and a consumption of 312 W/h

To complete then the changes introduced in the grinding chamber department: double fixed knives and screen in horizontal position, to facilitate and increase the discharge of the ground material inside the funnel.

FUNNEL AND SCREEN HOLDER

In the JN 15 Series, the screen holder and funnel are no longer a single component but two distinct parts separate from each other. The versatility and customization of the discharge area is thus increased, allowing the creation of different funnel versions suitable for the various uses required of the granulator. Conveniently pull-out funnel that can be unlocked by two expansion latches. Security micro and handwheel, on the other hand, lock the screen holder in place that can be opened only when the granulator is stopped. They thus allow extra safety for the operator, who can only tilt the hopper after the funnel is pulled out, the screen holder is opened, and the hopper latch is released.

SMALL FOOTPRINT AND BASEMENT STABILITY

Our dedicated injection molding machines have always been famous for their reduced footprint, ease of handling and the possibility of use on the side of the machine without creating a hindrance to the customer's work.
The same line of thought has been adopted in this new model where the side footprint is minimized by opting for an “in-line” motor configuration with respect to the grinding chamber. An engine that together with the rest of the granulator rests on a base with four wheels (two fixed and two movable), with an additional gain in stability during handling and positioning on board the machine.
The innovative chamber support brackets also provide more maneuvering space for all routine maintenance and result in increased possibilities for customizing funnels or special applications such as raised bases.
